(Frederick News Post - November 17, 2001) Fox Realty Group / GMAC Real Estate, which has been serving the community for more than a decade has relocated to new offices at the intersection of West Patrick and West South streets in Frederick. The former site of a bank, the building has been extensively renovated to include offices, a reception area and three conference rooms. In the basement, the owners plan to create a training area for real estate classes next year. Billie Fox launched the business 12 years ago and for the past 10 years the real estate firm was located off the Golden Mile. Steve and Terry Fox began looking at the vacant bank building and decided it was an excellent location. "People are still trying to come in and make deposits," said Mr. Fox. The building's two large vaults provide excellent storage for valuable documents. The Foxes pride themselves on having the latest in technology. The office, which currently has 14 agents, is the only local real estate office with a T-1 connection, which gives it an instant link to MRIS, the state realty association's listing of properties. Next month, the Foxes will have a real estate hotline in place that will allow callers to get information on properties for sale as well as how the home purchase process works. "We've also wired the entire building for cable TV, so everyone can keep up on what's going on," said Mr. Fox. The Foxes also have an Oak Ridge Log Homes office in the building and Mr. Fox said a full-time GMAC mortgage representative will be on hand within a few weeks. Initially an independent real estate office, the Foxes joined Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate about six years ago. Then GMAC, looking to expand into the real estate market, acquired Better Homes and Gardens' real estate operations. "It gave us access to global relocation and this area is hot for relocation," said Mr. Fox. "GMAC Real Estate grew from ninth place in relocations three years ago to third place this year." The Foxes said the GMAC philosophy also fit theirs', focusing on customer service. "We don't just sell houses, we establish relationships," said Mr. Fox, "we provide a service. We're not into numbers, but relationships with clients." The office, decorated with fox prints and fox-related items, includes one conference room that contains a TV for showing cartoons, will have a Nintendo game and toys and materials for children. "Parents feel more comfortable in the same room with a child while talking about buying a house. Families buy houses and we cater to that," said Mr. Fox, who is currently the president of the Frederick County Association of Realtors.
